Antarctica (& Photos)

Summer 2008-2009
Not many people have the opportunity to “Work Down Under”… as FAR DOWN UNDER as Jo has! Yes- she spent October 2007 through February 2008 at McMurdo Station on the Ross Ice Shelf.
Jo was a Shuttle Driver for the Scientists and other support Staff of the National Science Foundation.
Jo was rehired for the 2008-2009 “Summer Season”. (The seasons are opposite the USA.) Oct – Feb is the Austral Summer with 24 hour DAYLIGHT!
The Razertip Company (The woodburning machine Jo uses. *See TOOLS) was gracious enough to donate a machine for the Antarctic. And so during her time off, (Shuttle drivers work 12 hours shifts) she would teach classes to the other workers. Since there are NO TREES – bushes – or plants of any kind, Jo had to mail wood to burn on! But any true pyrographer will tell you it was WORTH it – to be able to keep on burning!
